Ask most guys, and they’ll tell you Die Hard is one of the best movies ever, and John McClane is the best action movie star ever. However, one aspect of the franchise that I think is underrated is the Die Hard movie soundtracks. The thing I like about them, well the first three at least, is that they choose well known classical tunes and put an ominous action movie spin on it. One issue is that the album for the first Die Hard so hard to find. Apparently they only released a few thousand and you can’t track down a download for it. That’s a shame because I’d probably buy it. I like the first one because it uses the Beethoven’s 9th Symphony quite prominently, which is a great tune. The second film uses that symphony a bit too, which is good. However, Finlandia is the classical piece it uses most. When Johnny Comes Marching Home is the feature piece for the third movie. Die Hard with a Vengeance is unique because it has songs from other artists, as opposed to just a score. For example, it has Summer in the City by The Lovin’ Spoonful. Remember? It starts off with that haunting tune and then that store blows up. I dare you to come up with a better beginning to a movie than that!
The third and fourth movie soundtracks are a lot easier to find than the first two, that’s for sure. All this talk about the Die Hard movies makes me feel like watching them again! I think I’ll watch one tonight. Anyway, be great to hear what everyone thinks of the films so please leave a comment.
